Thermal printer not dark

I purchased the thermal printer and have run a bunch of different tests with it. I still can't get it to print out darkly, like the initial slip that came with it. I tried using 5v 2a and 9v 2a to power it as well as a bunch of other ones in-between. Nothing works. The baroness and qr codes are never dark.
