BMP390 with Low Pressures

Post by jjUV »

Hi all,

My team is sending a payload to ~ 100,000 ft elevation. We expect to experience a minimum external pressure of 8 mmHg. We are looking to use the BMP390 Precision Barometric Pressure and Altimeter sensor to measure external pressure with altitude. This sensor has a full accuracy operating range of 300 to 1250 hPa (roughly 225 to 938 mmHg). If we were to still use this sensor, what kind of issues could we expect at those low pressures? Will the sensor fail or will it just lose accuracy?

At a minimum, I'd expect you'd lose accuracy. For concerns about failure, the datasheet unfortunately is not clear.

It only provides a maximum pressure to not exceed. Not a minimum.

It might be worth contacting Bosch directly and see if they can advise.
