Apologies up front: Sorry Adafruit! I bought my PyGamer Kit from Digi-Key. Same price, but you couldn’t ship it with the battery.
Firstly let me say; “What an excellent! purchase” (I original said b*a*r*g*a*i*n but that's an Adafruit spam word) You get a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4 processor with Floating Point Unit (FPU), 512KB of flash and 192KB of RAM, SD card, Qwiic I2C bus, speakers, TFT screen, joystick, with a battery in an enclosure for only $60 USD. Is the packaging worth $16. Maybe not for everyone, but for me it was worth every penny it cost. Well done Adafruit. We need more packaging like this in the Arduino universe.
Sure there is a little DIY to put it together but even a 10 thumb fumble finger oldie like me can put it together in less than one hour. The most frustrating operation was getting the paper off the acrylic parts. Connecting the speaker and battery were a bit fiddly but I managed. The “Build the PyGamer Case” should include the instructions to turn off the board before installing the battery. It was a minor shock that it booted just a soon as I managed to get the battery connected!
One minor grumble: I would have liked to have at least one green button.
One not so minor grumble: When you revise the board please change the micro-USB connector to the current industry standard USB-C.
Now if I could just find some similar package for my dual SSR breakout…..
