I have the https://www.adafruit.com/product/4364 cable (USB-C to FTDI) but I want to charge the Tablet I am using. It has only one USB port and I can see that when I plug in this cable I'm leeching the tablet battery when in fact I want to charge the device AND use the FTDI to communicate with my Arduino.
is this possible with this cable, or is there another way to achieve the same result ?

What model of tablet are you using?
On my iPad Air I can plug in a USB-C hub that allows multiple connections. Including a charge cable and other USB peripherals.
