TV-B-Gone not working

Post by abeldotam »

Hello, I recently bought a TV-B-Gone kit that I welded last night but it doesn't seem to work.
The green LED is blinking normally good, no problems on that side but the main LEDs do not light up when I look through a camera (as in the example video) and it doesn't turn on /off any television.
Have I done something wrong? Can you help for this?

Here are pictures of my welds: http://imgur.com/a/Rcjgi
(Do not mind the 3rd red wire, I screwed up a little to make the connection between the diode and the resistance, then I soldered the wire between the 2. This is MacGyver style but since I did it the green diode works perfectly. Just a change of path).

Thanks in advance

Couple of things.
Make sure you've got the right transistor at Q5. It's easy to mix it up with one of the other 4 transistors.
Also, clip out R2. You don't need it.

Hello, thanks for the answer
I've check the transistor in Q5, it seems to be the good one : PN2907A-E25 while the other four are PN2222A-E51
Also, for R2, I've made a mistake, I wanted to put in R3 (for the European database), I've removed it, still not working? Any other ideas? :/

Thanks, and regards

Possibly you got an unprogrammed chip. Please email [email protected] with a link to this thread for a replacement TV-B-Gone.

Hi adafruit, my TV-B-Gone was not working. So, you send me a replacement attiny85 microncontroler. I replace it. But....... Its still not working. Maybe it is on of the LED that is defective, or any other part. So, can you send me a new kit?

Please post some clear, detailed picture of both sides of the TV-B-Gone board, showing your soldering and assembly

Nice build!
Can you check that you have the right transistor in Q5? It should be a 2N2907.

If it is correct, Please email [email protected] with a link to this thread for a replacement TV-B-Gone kit.
