TV-B-Gone reprogram microchip

Could someone please tell me how to reprogrm the microchip on the TV-B-Gone.

The answer to your question depends on what exactly you are plannig to do:

Do you want to do major changes to the tv-b-gone and its firmware? There is no short answer for you. Programming microcontrollers is a very complex matter - you should at least have basic knowledge on electronics and programming in C oder assembler beforehand. Then the next thing you would like to do is check out some websites like http://www.mikrocontroller.net (my recommendation if you happen to speak german), http://www.avrprojects.net/ or http://www.avrfreaks.net.

Would you like to burn some already compiled firmware to the controller (which you found on the internet for example, propably a .hex file) then all you need is a programmer or development board and some software which is available on the internet for free.

Either way there is a very basic tutorial which explains programming a microcontroller step by step which you might want to take a look at:

It may not give you a deeper understanding of the matter but it will provide you with some encouraging success
