ADAFRUIT HUZZAH ESP8266 upload failure

by kyleArrow on Wed Jul 11, 2018 1:01 pm

I am unable to upload to the Adafruit Huzzah board that I was previously able to.
Info:
Environment Arudino 1.8.5
It is attached to the OLED feather wing and the screen works and outputs what was previously uploaded to it.
Button inputs still work to change what is displayed.
The serial output no longer works.
The dim boot LED is OFF.

Trouble shooting attempts:
Switched with the USBs with another Huzzah board (let's call it boardB), the boardB still worked while the original board still failed to upload.
Uploaded the code attempting to upload to original and successfully uploads to boardB.
Turned external power on, off, then removed it; no change.
Connected Pin 0 to GND with 220 ohm resistor in series, EDIT: and the chpd with rst using 220 ohm resitorstill failed to upload; boot light turns on when connected, but was not on otherwise.
Switched to generic ESP2866 with reset set to nodemcu still no change.
Switched the COMs on my laptop so that the original was on boardB's com, no change.
Reinstalled driver, no change

Followed this for most of these:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-huz ... /faq#faq-7

The errors are as follows:
warning: espcomm_sync failed
error: espcomm_open failed
error: espcomm_upload_mem failed
error: espcomm_upload_mem failed

If anyone has more things I should be doing to troubleshoot please leave a reply.
Cheers,
Kyle

It sounds like the Feather's USB-to-Serial converter has failed.

When did you get the board?

Hi Mike, I bought the board about 6 weeks ago, would I be best off replacing the board? I have no issue with the cost, so long as the error does not persist onto the next board.

The easiest option would be to replace it.

You can probably continue to program the one you have through a USB-to-Serial cable like this one:

but you’ll have to reset the board manually when you want to upload firmware.
