Feather Huzzah ESP8266 USB + BAT + Step-Up?

by Buckrider on Fri Sep 06, 2019 12:16 pm

Hey,

is there a best practice solution to:
- use USB or battery (lipo) as power source (one of both or both to charge the battery)
- use a 5V step-up converter (max. 115 mA) (directly conntected to power source somehow instead of internal '3V' voltage regulator)
- no manual rewiring - all I can do is unplugging the battery or USB

If the step-up converter is connected via VBat the charging electronics will not charge the battery.
So in this case the VBat line must be clean and the step-up converter must run via USB circuit (-> USB pin?).

Can this somehow be achieved without using additional components?
If not.. what would be the best solution?

Thank you!

The only thing I've found seems to be a battery-only solution (VBat): https://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=121959#p609358

You can use a PowerBoost 500C to generate the 5V supply, and can connect its BAT and GND pins to BAT and GND on the Feather.

Plugging the USB cable into the PowerBoost will charge the LiPo, and the Feather should be able to run from the LiPo while it's charging.
