Using the PN532 NFC/RFID Controller Shield on my Raspberry P

Post by JCharles »

I am trying to build a project specifically with my Raspberry Pi 3 using RFID technology. I have been looking at 2 different modules one is the Adafruit PN532 NFC/RFID Controller Shield (https://www.adafruit.com/product/789) and the other is the ID-12LA kit (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13198).

I am fairly new to the whole maker scene and just wanted to know if the PN532 kit could even be used with the Raspberry Pi 3 or would I have to make some modifications to it? Because If modifications (programming, getting new parts, etc.) is necessary it may just be better to get the ID-12LA kit since its already built for the Pi. If anyone has any other suggestions other than these two reader please let me know. Also I want to make sure that whatever reader I get, I will be able to also use read-write RFID tags.

The shield is designed to work with the Arduino boards and would need at least minimal modification to work with the Pi.
