Which micro controller is the equivalent of the Ardunio Uno

by tonyf11 on Mon Dec 17, 2018 3:40 pm

Hey there, I have recently purchased an arduino uno R3 with the Adafruit Bluefruit LE SPI Friend - Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) module. I have found however that the R3 is too big for me to prototype with so I need a small controller with the same bluetooth module (it can be already soldered to the micro controller). Any suggestions? thanks in advance!!!

Maybe a BLE Feather?

Is there a reason you specifically need to use an UNO?

mostly for the processing power but really all i need it to do is receive messages from an app to turn a servo motor. Do you believe I could be better off with something simpler?

The UNO + SPI BLE Friend would work for that. Which it sounds like you've already determined. But it's a size issue with the UNO. How small a space do you need?

Since you already have the SPI BLE Friend, another idea would be to just use a small controller board. If you don't need battery power and charging (all the Feathers have that built in), then checkout the Itsy Bitsy's:

I would like to use a battery source to power it as well so it sounds like the feather board you suggested will work. My next two questions are how will the battery be recharged once it runs out? and I am in need of a non continuous servo what do you suggest?

Feathers have built in battery charging that will work with our lion batteries:

Charging is done by plugging in to USB power.

For the servo, you can get non-continuous versions:

and pair with a servo FeatherWing:

However, the servos may require a separate power source, different from the one attached to the Feather's input.
