Going into sino:bit

by thymjan on Sat Feb 09, 2019 6:59 pm

I've big troubles getting started with sino:bit. It is not recognized as a usb disk. I can't access COM-Port. Either with macos nor with windows. If I plug it in, just the blue led lights on and the red smiley appears.
I've tried to install the soft device. No success.

Can someone give me a hint?

I helped myself.

First of all: I had a stupid 30cm usb-cable. After changing it to a *short* 10cm one the sino:bit was recognized as micro:bit in arduino.

Second I had to cherry-pick the hex-file for the S110 softdevice from here:
https://www.nordicsemi.com/Software-and-Tools/Software/S110/Download#infotabs
and put it in the appropriate folder, because this folder stayed empty.

Now I was able to flash the softdevice and upload the examples successfully!

When in doubt, verify your USB cable by using it to connect some other, known-working device to the computer.

There's a plague of charge-only cables out there with USB connectors at both ends, but no wires for the data signals. We see people get caught by them every day.

Just swapping to another cable doesn't prove anything.. it's become normal for people to say they had to try three or four cables before finding one that worked. You need the true positive of a working connection to rule out the false negative of a charge-only cable.

Well, I don’t know why, but the long usb cable I used before worked well with a esp8266.
