Lorawan :: SSH

by mwclark001 on Sun Aug 09, 2020 7:57 pm

I am working on a project where I have several "sites" in a rural area in which I need SSH access.

I was thinking of using lorawan technology to bridge the gap in cellular service. I have not found much documentation on SSH over lora.

I have (60) rural sites total, some of which have leased T1 lines. All sites have tower access with line of site to T1 locations. I am willing to do the propagation study if Lora if it is a practical solution. Please let me know if I am totally off and should abandon notion.

Has anyone tested a project like this? I have also been looking into LTE Cat-M1 as a cellular solution for each site.

I would be willing to share the project via open source to community,

Please post if you can help my effort.

To my knowledge this is "prohibited" and not "doable".

Not doable because maximum LoRaWAN messages are 51 bytes (uplink) and downlink is more limited. I think ssh needs way more. Even if you made it, the duty cycle on ISM band is 1% and way less with downlinks.

LoRaWAN is for bytes and better for ... bits.

In reality you need TCP/IP over LoRaWAN. Not doable to my knowledge.

I appreciate the response clv.

I came to same same conclusion, but will still research on a small scale.
