Raspberry Pi Pico: DOA?

Post by _scottp »

Just got myself a Raspberry Pi Pico to try out, and when I plug it into a USB port on my laptop I'm not getting any visible activity. No lights on the board, nothing mounting on my laptop. I've tried several different USB cables in case one of them was a 'power only' cable. I've used known good cables that I use to connect my camera - still nothing. Are there any other troubleshooting or config things I should look at, or did I just have bad luck on this one?

Unplug the pico from USB. Hold the BOOTSEL button down. Plug the pico back in to USB while still holding the BOOTSEL button down. Do you get the RPI-RP2 folder?

You can move data with the USB cable?

Yep. I’m using the same cable I use to tether my camera to Adobe Lightroom.

Does the laptop respond at all when you try to bring up the RPI-RP2 folder? Make any USB connect sounds, etc.?

Do you have a second PC you try the same check on? Just to rule out something with that laptop/USB port.

Ok, I've tried it on a different computer. No luck.
I'm on a mac. RPI-RP2 doesn't mount, and disk utility doesn't show any unmounted volumes.
I tried
# ls /dev/cu.*
and it doesn't show the device.

Wow. It just doesn't want to work. Pretty amazing. Pico's have a ROM bootloader and are pretty indestructible. Thanks for all the checking. Let's just replace it.

Send an email to [email protected] with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a replacement Pi Pico.
