adafruit itsybitsy 32u4 - 3v 8mhz - Red light just stays on

Post by brooksborg »

Hi There,

I ordered 2 adafruit itsybitsy 32u4 - 3v 8mhz recently. I plugged in the first one, uploaded my code, got my LEDs jamming.

I soldered my Adafruit LiIon/LiPoly Backpack Add-On for Pro Trinket/ItsyBitsy on to the second one, just like the first.
When I power the microcontroller over USB by plugging it into the computer nothing happens, Windows 10, computer doesn't see it but it saw the previous Itsybitsy I just did a project with. The red light just stays on.
It glows at me, like Cylon... laughing.

So when I plug the board in, no response from the computer red light stays on, can't upload through Arduino IDE.
I just did a successful project. I had this recently happen with a Flora I bought but I did not post anything, I instead changed to another processor. Both of these boards came from the same order, so am I looking at a defective situation or does the red light coming on mean something?

I am not super concerned over the Flora, If I were going to donate money to a company this one is at the top of the list, which is why I did not post about it, but now having had this happen a second time I am having concerns.

I am not an expert, but not a beginner.

I am happy to post pictures but I am not sure it will make a difference, especially considering I have experience with both boards.

Let me know what you think!

-Brooks

Just to clarify - you did not test the second Itsy prior to soldering on the LiPo Backpack?

Yes, please post photo(s) of the problematic Itsy so we can check the current state of the hardware.

Hi Carter,

I didn't test either of them. I just went for it. The first one worked the second one is all about that red light life.

Let me know what you think. If I messed it up no worries. I'm not out for cash or replacement boards unless it's the right choice. I'm just trying to figure out what the deal is. I will mention with my Flora, I soldered nothing. Sane red light shenanigans.

Here are the pics.

Thanks for the photos. Yah, there's a lot going on there. So really makes things questionable and hard to troubleshoot.

The Flora sounds like it's unmodified though? Can you clarify the red LED behavior. Is it steady on? Or is it pulsing on/off? Also try hitting the reset button and see what the red LED does.
