Microbit V2 not recognized By PC

Post by ckellar33 »

I am unable to see the Microbit v2 on my MAC. I boot up the device and observe the boot up sequence illustrated in the documentation, but it is not recognized by the computer. I have tried several different cables and even tried another Windows PC.

I feel as though the devices USB data lines are not working.

I would appreciate your guidance.

Thank you,
Chris

Do you have any other microcontroller board that you can use to verify that the cables you are using are data & power cables, or just power only?

I did try two different cables with no luck. I grabbed a known working cable for another embedded device and it worked fine. I guess the two I tried just didn’t have the data lines connected.

I am all good now.

Thank you for your help,

It's a good idea to mark the "power only" cables in some way.

My method is to cut one end off.

That's our favorite way too.

In general, charge-only cables use the cheapest/thinnest wire they can get away with. They aren't even that great for charging things.

The only exception is for charge-only cables that have been around long enough to cause serious headaches. Those get Widlarized: taken to the shop, placed on an anvil, and pounded with a hammer until the chunks stop getting smaller.
