Teensy 4.1 dead?

Post by timmyjane »

I have a Teensy that seems to not be doing anything. I didn’t test it before soldering the headers so I don’t know if it was working then. When plugged into the computer the red led came on dimly. IDE would not recognize the board as connected. I have pressed the button on the board and no change. Red light no longer comes on. I’ve inspected for anything shorted and I can’t see anything touching or any sloppy solder. Anyone have any tips on where I should look for what appears to be a dead Teensy? Thanks.

As a sanity check, verify your USB cable by using it to connect some other, known-working device to a computer.

There's a plague of charge-only cables out there with USB connectors at both ends, but no wires for the data signals. People get caught by them every day.

Just swapping cables has no diagnostic value. The current record is someone who had to try ten cables before finding one that worked. Only a working USB connection can rule out a charge-only cable.

Thanks Mike. I should have added that I have 10 Teensy 4.1s and the others connected and were able to be programmed fine with the same cable.

The red light is still working so it seems power is there. But the orange light isn’t flashing or doing anything. I tried holding the reset button for around 60 seconds hoping that would hard reset the boot loader or something but no luck. Any other ideas?

Yeah, that rules out cable problems.

When did you get the Teensys?
