I was trying out the avr109 bootloader from here [], and I can't get it to work. I'm using an atmega8 with fusebits set to 0xE4, 0xD8 (lfuse and hfuse respectively). The site offered 2 modes of the atmega8, whether it be in 1 mhz or 8 mhz. I tried the 8mhz one. I changed the fusebits first to 0xe4 0xd8 before flashing the bootloader with a dasa programmer. Then I connected the atmega8's RX and TX to my PC's TX and RX (RX - TX, TX - RX). I opened CMD and type out "avrdude -c avr109 -p m8 -P com1 -b 4800 -v" to verify if the target could be read. Avrdude can't read my atmega8. Can you guys help me out?..

You might want to try contacting the author of that code. You can get his email from his website where you got that project info.

You don't mention changing the memory protection bits to enable the boot region?
