Raspberry Pi 3 WiFi not working out of the box

Post by drake127 »

I got my new Raspberry Pi 3 and WiFi has never worked on it. From the first boot until the last time I booted it, it has never been able to find my wireless network. I am running the latest version of Raspbian Jessie, updated and upgraded (I even tried rewriting the image to my SD card, twice). I have also tried a number of other things as suggested by forums on RaspberryPi.com and this website.

Is there anything else I could try or is the Pi likely defective?

Order number:1058545-0543046042 placed on March 24th

Thank you,

Devin

What output do you get from `dmesg`?

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 WiFi not working out of the box

So I ran that command but......another issue has arisen that may or may not be related. So when I first got the Pi, I booted a couple of times before I went to set up the WiFi. That's when I noticed the issue with the WiFi. I updated and upgraded and when I rebooted following that, the Pi never came back to life. When I boot, the "startx" command appears to be run automatically as I have not yet changed the password. But this is what it never made it past. It would take me to a black screen with a flashing underscore cursor. After about 15 minutes stuck here, I punted and re-installed Raspbian Jessie onto my SD card. The Pi worked as normal after this and I was able to update, upgrade, and (successfully) reboot. After this, the WiFi still did not work and that's when I came to this forum. But this inability to boot happened again, so I am now on my third install of Raspbian. Anyways, here's what "dmesg" printed out:

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 WiFi not working out of the box

Post by DoctorLar »

In case you haven't gotten anywhere, I had many frustrating days with Pi3 and Jessie. Out of the box I could not get update/upgrades to connect. I finally figured out that my issue was that I could connect to the LAN, but nothing outside the network. There is a problem with Pi3 Jessie and a few routers, everything comes through from the DH CP EXCEPT the default gateway. gggrrrrrrr SO, each time I load up I run this in command: sudo route add default gw 192.168.1.1

Hoping a better fix comes along or that it at least gets you working.
