Send a note containing a link to this thread and your order number to [email protected]. The folks there will arrange store credit for the cost of one Gemma and one Flora that you can apply to your next purchase.

Have you tried running the bootloader repair on the Gemma? Can you post clear pictures of the connections on the Flora? Have you looked to see if the solder has properly flowed to the pads? If it has been less than a month we can replace or refund if they di indeed prove defective.

Re: Gemma can't find USBtiny device
I seem to be having the same problem as everyone above... Floras are working great, and Gemmas are all giving the "Could not find USBTiny device" error. We have three Gemmas and a handful of Floras, have tried on multiple laptops and with different USB tables. The kids are feeling pretty frustrated... It's not a good first experience with microcontrollers. :-(
We have IDE 1.8.5 installed. I found one thread that someone backed up to IDE 1.6.5 and the Gemma liked that... Seems like a poor solution. https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=367822.0
Maybe too different of a topic, but going through lots of Gemma installation tutorials, this (https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/download ... -setup.pdf) was the only one that pointed out that in order to find the AdaFruit AVR Boards in the Boards manager, I have to go into properties and add the URL (https://adafruit.github.io/arduino-boar ... index.json) to the "Additional Boards Manager URLs". I was having a heck of a time figuring out why I couldn't find those boards in the Boards Manager!
Are there any solutions for Gemma yet? AdaFruit, y'all can't possibly really expect us to dig up old USB hubs to get the Gemma to talk to our computers, right?

Re: Gemma can't find USBtiny device
The Gemma doesn't have any real USB hardware, just a bootloader that emulates a low-speed USB connection long enough to upload firmware. That's what makes it small and inexpensive.
The 8MHz microcontroller can't handle the burst of 480MHz data high-speed USB hubs emit to identify high-speed devices, and that leads to a lot of connection problems. Using a USB-2 hub will block those signals so the microcontroller sees signals it can handle. If you know of a better solution that fits in the Gemma footprint and doesn't increase the price dramatically, we'd love to hear it.

Re: Gemma can't find USBtiny device
It's a shame there is this problem with the Gemma v2. "could not find usbtiny device" My three friends and I are new to all this and were very excited to give it a try. But we've wasted way too many hours researching and trying different versions, drivers, computers, blah blah.... I guess we should have put in a little more initial research before we decided on the gemma v2. We've had them too long for a refund. So we're going to roll the dice once more and try the Flora. It's over kill for our project, but hey, if it actually works, that would be exciting.
I'd recommend to just spend the extra few bucks on the Flora and avoid the possible issues of the gemma.
