This depends somewhat strongly on just what you want to make the motor do? Just on-and-off in one direction? Or reversible with variable speeds in each direction? And how big is the motor?

Thanks for replying... i will be using basic 12v dc motor and i want it to run in both directions... i will be using differential drive.... thanks

i basically will use it for making a line follower........ so that when the line is not detected then the boy will move back to the line by using differential drive

You should start out by looking up "H-bridge" as that is what you probably will end up using to drive the motors with. I don't know if the motor shield will handle enough current but adding mosfets will help with that if you go that route.

A MOSFET is just a certain type of transistor... You want to make sure to use something rated for the current you will be pulling through them.
I think I am, therefore I am... I think.
