3.3 Sensor with 5V I2C?

by sushi on Fri Apr 10, 2009 2:01 pm

I am trying to interface a 3.3 V sensor with a 5V Arduino over a I2C interface...I have pretty much assumed that I don't want to connect them directly. I looked up some stuff on google and found that there are level translators, but I seriously don't want to get one (I will if its really necessary)...instead I want to know if there is a way to do it with resistors (pull-up maybe)?

If thats not possible, what level translator should I get?

Thanks in advance!

Check the datasheet for the sensor. Some are "5v tolerant" and don't need anything. Sparkfun has a small translator and it's dual channel.
