Arduino Controlled Littermaid

by toddejohnson on Sun Apr 12, 2009 2:57 am

I have ripped out the old circuit board on my broken littermaid and I'm trying to replace it with an arduino and motor controller. I have the forward and reverse switches working and the motor shield is running the motor great in both directions.

Now I'm trying to rebuild the cat detection, the automatic part. The original system uses what appear to be 2 identical IR LEDs. I would love to be able to reuse them as they fit nicely into the plastic. I have also thought about using a PIR instead, but worry about too much overflow.

Still trying to convince my wife to let me put a XPort on it and have it call a php script every time it senses the cat and graph it. But it needs to be able to sense the cat first. Then we will see what I can do.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Probably a simple ir detector one being the IR led and the other a detector of sorts. You could test them by shining a known good ir led on them as you measure the output. Try 38 to 40 khz also in case they are modulated.
