GEMMA v2 wont go into bootloader mode

I purchased a GEMMA v2 (order number 1400473) for a project I am working on.
I believe there is a problem with the GEMMA I received.

I am unable to get it into bootloader mode. The red light wont turn on when I press the button. I have tried multiple USB cables, with and without a USB 2.0 hub, and a Windows 10 and Linux system. My UNO board works fine of both my Windows 10 and Linux box.

I attempted to restore the bootloader by following these instructions:

and this was the output:

I would love to get this working but I'm all out of ideas.
