So I am a cosplayer making a Buzz Lightyear Costume. I am looking at getting an Arduino to handle all of the functionality in the costume. The basics of what it will do are
Shoot the wings out and in
Turn on the spinning lights in the wings
pop the head dome open and closed
activate a speaker to play pre recorded messages
Switch those prerecorded messages to spanish mode (basically play a different set of recorded messages with the same button as before that I will record)
make the pew pew sound while activating the laser light on the arm.
I am starting from scratch here and have never used any computer systems such as this before so I was hoping there would be people willing to recommend what type of product to get and where to begin learning how to program and set it up. I also am curious about what type of wiring and power source would be best for the Arduino as well as any switches or fuses etc I will need to get this project working.
Thanks so much for any advice!

Re: Help Getting Started Arduino Programming basics
Start by getting the mechanicals working on the costume before working on controlling them. As to the sounds you could use the Adafruit FX sound board.

Re: Help Getting Started Arduino Programming basics
Interesting. And yes I am definitely planning on getting the mechanics down but I would like to know what I am doing as far as controlling them so I am not finishing up the parts and then waiting for 3 weeks to start working on the rest of the mechanics of getting it working. Any Ideas on Wiring and power for these things?

Re: Help Getting Started Arduino Programming basics
Start learning at https://www.arduino.cc/ Pick up an Arduino starter kit. Something like this will give you a good start https://www.adafruit.com/product/3345. Once you get the basics you can study up on the parts to make your costume...
Sound effects board as Franklin said https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-aud ... ring-audio
Lights I would go with Neopixels https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neo ... n?view=all
The movement will depend on your motive power. Gear motors, stepper motors, solenoids and others can work and can be controlled by the Arduino given the right driver.
