Which VOC sensor for isopropyl alcohol??

Post by tkinsman »

Adafruit makes several different Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) sensors.

I want to use one to detect Isopropynol, Isopropyl alcohol, or SD Alcohol-40. (Found in white-board dry-erase markers.)

Does anyone have any experience or an opinion about which VOC sensor I should buy for detecting alcohols?

SD Alcohol-40 appears to be a specific type of denatured ethanol. The MQ-3 and MiCS-5524 are both very sensitive to ethanol, have a look at Adafruit Learn: Comparison and Experimentation with Flammable Gas Sensors: Testing Gases. Latter works better with steady air flow, both needs protection from draughts for good readings.
Gas sensor test - red wine low ppm (3 drops of red wine about 6 inches from sensor)

I still have those two sensors. I'll try and find some propanol if you're still interested in that?
