issue with arduino controlled optocoupler

Post by markjames »

I've built a circuit to fire the shutter release on my camera. It uses the digital pin output from an arduino driving a 4N25 optocoupler.

The arduino digital pin goes through a 330ohm resistor to pin 1 of the 4N25. pin 2 goes to ground.

The shutter release is caused by closure across pins 4 and 5 of the 4N25.

It works but it doesn't 'completely' release. My camera always senses the shutter button being 'slightly' pressed.

Is there a way to remedy this?

Thanks in advance.

Short answer, you can try a bigger resistor. Long answer, we would need to do some measurements to see what might be going on, and see the connections, etc.

Thanks.

I think I found the problem - a bit of solder residue between the emitter and collector.

seems better now.
