Running a Stepper with Arduino, Motorshield and Potentiomete

by mcpheeken on Sat Aug 17, 2019 11:31 pm

Hi there all... if this is the wrong area to post, please let me know.

I'm very VERY new to this kind of thing... I was assured (by the guys at the robotics shop) that what I'm looking for is simple, and they sold me a bunch of stuff to do it... so much for easy!

I would like to control a stepper motor (speed with potentiometer) to turn continuously. I have an Arduino UNO an Adafruit Motor Shield V 2.3 and a NEMA 17 stepper (4 wire). I can't seem to find any tutorials with this desired set up.

If anyone here can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks in advance!!

Have you checked out the tutorial here?

I sure have. I've gotten all the way to installing the library, having everything hooked up, power is on both the Arduino and the Motor Shield.. I've uploaded the stepper test but there's no movement.. I think possibly the stepper wires are not connected properly... I'm trying to find a tutorial on determining which wires are which so I can't make sure they're plugged into the right spot...

I've also not found a way to hook up a potentiometer to the motor shield... maybe I should have picked up the L298n instead of the motor shield.. it looks like it's more my speed (I'm a super simple dude)… ha.

https://learn.adafruit.com/all-about-stepper-motors What are the specifications of your motor? Specifically the ohms per phase.
