Itsy Bitsy M0 Express will not Compile

by renefelker on Sat Feb 08, 2020 11:05 pm

Whenever I add the Itsy Bitsy to my Arduino IDE it will not compile. Attempted every solution on line and can not get it to work. I have rebuilt the Raspberry several times and have changed the order of loading the libraries, etc. I coded the "uncanny eyes" last year and it all works, but I am building additional eyes and can not load new Itsy Bitsy's.

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE

Check that you have the Arduino SAMD support installed as well as the Adafruit SAMD support.

Thanks for the help. Had all boards and lib needed. The problem was with a shared library. I had to install libfl-dev to get what I needed. In all my troubleshooting I had tried loading it before and it did not fix the problem. But, on my third attempt at rebuilding everything (including PI) I must have hit on the correct load order. It works better if you load the Arduino SAMD boards before the Adafruit SAMD boards.

After fresh install of Arduino 1.8.9 IDE and loading board support for both Arduino and Adafruit SAMD I get error:
Could not find boards.txt in C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Arduino15\packages\adafruit\hardware\samd\1.5.9. Is it pre-1.5? when I try and run example blinky

It might be worth upgrading to Arduino 1.8.11

Initially I started with 1.8.11 and had the problem that was fixed by installing the Arduino SAMD boards (32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+) by Arduino version 1.8.4. So I uninstalled, and started with 1.8.9. I have been able to use my UNO without any issues. I have had similar library issues with my Feather Express M0 and Tinker M0. So, I just upgraded to 1.8.11 and still have the problem. Please advise.

I'd reinstall the SAM board support in case something got messed up during the Arduino updates.

I did and still had an issue. I went looking for boards.txt and it does not have support for feather express M0, itsybitsy M0, or Trinket M0. Arduino shows the proper board is installed.

You might have to delete the Arduino15 directory and reinstall the board files. Mine have the Adafruit M0 boards listed.

I loaded the Arduino IDE 1.8.12 on my windows 10 computer this morning and was able to get "blinky" working :). Attached is the boards.txt file (which I was suprised to see no Tinker M0, ItsyBitsy M0, or Feather Express M0 listed, even though the board manager shows these boards).

Sketch uses 10448 bytes (3%) of program storage space. Maximum is 262144 bytes.

Is this from the Python USB mounted drive?

I will uninstall and reinstall Arduino IDE on my two windows 7 computers that have not produced any results and retry. At least now I know my sequence of installation steps is correct and my hardware works. Wish me luck!
