Non-contact thermocouple for MAX31855

Post by laineee »

Hi,

I am looking for a non-contact k type thermocouple or temperature sensor for surface temperatures that can work with the MAX31855 that will be wired to an Arduino Uno. Preferably, it would have an uncertainty of less than +/-0.5°C. A lot of the thermocouples I have seen here do not have the rated uncertainty on them.

Alternatively, I am willing to use a different amp, that is not the MAX31855, if it is compatible with a surface temperature sensor /thermocouple that meets the requirements above.

Thank you

IR "thermocouples" are not really thermocouples. They are IR sensors that scale their millivolt output to mimic the response of an actual thermocouple. As with any IR temperature sensor, the temperature calculation makes some assumptions about the emissivity of the target.

In theory, IR thermocouples should work with the MAX31855, but we do not stock any and have not tested with these devices.

Omega is a good source for such devices: https://sea.omega.com/tw/subsection/non ... uples.html

Hi,

Will I be able to use this with the MAX31855?

Thank you

As noted above, we have not tested with any of them. But if they have the same millivolt output as a real thermocouple, they should work with the MAX31855.
