Suggestions to get Adafruit GFX to work with other displays?

by jwardell on Tue Feb 18, 2020 11:16 pm

I am wrestling with a 4D IOD-09TH and their limited GFX library that doesn't support custom fonts, and I love using Adafruit GFX on my many other displays.
As it is a small TFT display, I'm wondering if it would be fairly easy for me to port the Adafruit GFX to support it. I really just want to draw full-height (80px) fonts on the tiny display; their two fonts are microscopic.

I'm curious if the community has any thoughts or other suggestions.

To port GFX to another display, you just need to derive a class from it and implement the "drawPixel" function for the new display. That will give you full GFX capability on any display.

For improved performance on more advanced displays, you can override some of the higher-level functions to take advantage of any higher level hardware capabilities of the display controller.
