Compile error for Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 - intermit

by KimV on Thu Aug 06, 2020 7:51 pm

I love the Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266 controller. I've used it for a number of projects over the years. However, I started getting a compile error with the latest project. Went back to a number of older projects and tried to compile them - Same Thing. I compile for other controller, micro, mini's and have no issue. I have uninstalled, installed, went to old version, tried using the latest version, rebooted in between, nothing seem to fix this.

Anyone see this problem? What can I be doing wrong?

Kim

Looks like something has happened with your Arduino setup. Update the Arduino IDE and then try reinstalling the ESP8266 Board Support.

I have completely uninstalled, got the latest and restarted the tool chain. I have the same issue.
Arduino 1.8.13
ESP8266 Boards (2.7.4)

When I uninstall, I ask for everything to be removed except my projects. Could there be something in my project or library files causing this?

Also, I have updated my python to the latest (3.8).

There is actually. There's this one folder you need to manually delete to actually do a completely fresh re-install.
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Arduino15

You'd replace (username) with whatever account you installed Arduino with. Based on the output in your post above, that's probably:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
C:\Users\KimVolz\AppData\Local\Arduino15

So try doing the uninstall / reinstall again. But this time also manually delete that folder.

I uninstalled, removed the directory, installed, same thing (1.8.13)

I uninstalled, removed the directory, reverted back to Python 2.7, installed, same thing ( 1.8.13)

I uninstalled, removed the directory, installed Arduino 1.8.10, same thing (1.8.10)

I uninstalled, removed the directory, installed Arduino 1.8.13 - non-admin install, same thing (1.8.13)

BTW, I rebooted a couple of times as I was troubleshooting. Not sure where to go from here...

Not sure. Maybe try installing on another PC? You shouldn't need to do anything directly with Python. Simply install Arduino, then the ESP8266 Board Package, and then should be able to compile.

I finally fixed the issue. I installed the Arduino IDE on a different computer. It had no issues. I checked the versions of software. The second machine, that was working, had 1.8.12. The machine that was having the issue had 1.8.13.

I uninstalled 1.8.13 and the directories for all esp8266 stuff.
I installed 1.8.12 and now I can compile and download.

I'm not sure how I got to two different websites for the "Latest" code, but I am now up and running.

Thanks for your help!!
