Setting Up Ultra High Density DotStar LED PCB Bar - 128 LEDs

Hello!

I am about to buy these products from Adafruit:

https://www.adafruit.com/product/3776
https://www.adafruit.com/product/276
https://www.adafruit.com/product/275
https://www.adafruit.com/product/328

and I bought these products from Arduino:

https://store.arduino.cc/usa/student-ki ... re=default
https://store.arduino.cc/usa/grove-pir- ... re=default

and I bought this from Ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/363108025415?h ... SwxxVfYa4C

Is there anything else that I need to power my Arduino and Adafruit kits?

I would like to turn on the LED lights. Changing their colors and brightness based on motion sensor feedback is a possibility that I am considering to pursue.

I am hesitant about putting together these kits because I heard that without correct wiring the entire kit can be overrun with electricity and get broken.

How should I set up the Arduino, the breadboard, the power source, and the LED lights?

Do you have any tips on basic programming with Arduino for the LED lights kit? I have basic experience with programming Arduino, but I am really confused about how I link up the breadboard to the Arduino and the LED light.

Should I copy-paste the codes from online and just use them?

I will really appreciate any help or feedback that you can give me.

Thank you so much
Sincerely
Y

I'm not sure what the ebay product is for and you didn't say what type of arduino you will be using but the lipo may be an incorrect power source. Get back with more information on what you plan to do.

Hello, I am using my own account rather than my boss's account to communicate on this thread.

I read on Adafruit that I need 1000 uf capacitor to prevent power surge.

The student kit of Arduino comes with 1 Arduino Uno.

May I ask why the Li Po battery might be an incorrect power source? Can I refund the Li Po battery?

I hope to run the LED lights using either direct power from power outlet or battery, using breadboard and Arduino Uno. Thank you so much!

You can use the caps to protect the strips from surge if the power is noisy, it is a good idea.

The student kit of Arduino comes with 1 Arduino Uno.
An UNO is a good choice to control the strip.

May I ask why the Li Po battery might be an incorrect power source? Can I refund the Li Po battery?
The uno uses 5 volts and the lipo provides 3.7 volts also the strip power is easier to provide with a 5 volt supply.

Will the capacitors work even if they are not 5V?

P.S. How do I add a 1000 uf capacitor to the setup?

I am confused by the picture that I see here:

and diagram here:

You should add the capacitor across the power supply as close to the pixels as possible. Both the links show how it is done.

What does it mean to use the capacitor "across" the power supply? I don't understand haha. Do I just stick the capacitor's legs into power source and ground simultaneously as they link to the arduino and breadboard?
