Woodworker here. Looking to mount these components on the underside of a cornhole board and would like to use an arcade style button on the zero (random) trigger to play various loaded sound bites.

This is out of my realm and would appreciate your help and input. Is there a control knob i should include to control volume?

Volume control for the FX board is via up/down buttons. Any pair of momentary pushbuttons will work for that. Connect to the VOL +/- pins as described here:is there a control knob i should include to control volume?

Those should work together. Although, with a 4xAA battery holder you should use rechargeable NiMH cells. If you want to use regular Alkaline cells, you should use a 3xAA holder as described in the guide.
