LCD backpack contrast screw broke off

Post by JPJ »

I purchased this https://www.adafruit.com/product/292 i2c/SPI character LCD backpack and the first time I tried to adjust the contract the screw broke off (photo below). My 16x2 LCD came with a trip pot and I was hoping I could wire it between the power and ground leads onto the breadboard to adjust the contrast? If yes, can someone provide wiring instructions?

If I cannot use the external pot I'm wondering if the contrast can be adjusted by software? If yes, could someone post a link to an Arduino sketch showing how?

I did some Google searches and found there are LCD commands for contrast, but don't know how to incorporate those into my Arduino sketch. Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

You can connect the blue trim-pot that came with your LCD. The surface-mount pot has two solder pads on one side and one pad on the opposite side. The first two pads on the board correspond to the outer two pins on the blue trim-pot (either way - it is not polarized). The other pin corresponds to the center pin.

These displays do not support software contrast control.
