atmega328 chips...will you sell arduino flashed ones

by sti robot on Wed May 21, 2008 1:07 pm

I was surfing around the other day and noticed that there are plans to release the atmega328 to the general public in the near future. This chip is essentially* the same as the chip currently in use on the arduino platform, but with ~2x the on chip capacity. It even has the same pinnouts so it should be fairly compatible.

Will adafruit ind sell a atmega328 chip flashed with an arduinoish bootloader when the come? Please, pretty please, with a cherry on top.

There was a thread on the arduino.cc forum in which someone got a hold of demo chips and got them working:)

You're awesome. I hope they release them to the general public soon. I'm guessing its an inventory volume thing...as soon as they release them they'll sell like crazy and they don't want to have angry customers.

that's awesome, i just ordered my first arduino, i'm gettin jittery waitin for it to arrive, got it from adafruit. the nice little starter kit. it makes it even cooler that the 328 will work with it.

*edit*

and i just sent in a sample request form for one of these. hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on one.

They're shipping. I got my samples in the mail a week ago.

How about at least posting the changes made to the bootloader, as soon as my boarduino arrives I plan on dropping a 328 in it's 168's spot.

Any updates available on the status of 328 chips? I have a project waiting for 32K of code space.

Wow, I just got 3 Boarduino's in the mail Friday, (2 of em' are already assembled :D ) when you say that you will upgrade the boarduinos... does this mean that the kits will ship with the 328s or will there be design differences as well?

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on an order, but Mouser says 190 on order and the expected ship date is 8/18/08. Any of those reserved for Adafruit? Ladyada, should I wait or would it be a while before these ship on the Boarduinos? If it will be a while I might just suck it up and buy the chip separately later.

Yeah, suppliers do stuff like that. So in your professional opinion, do I wait or just start developing and upgrade the chip later? I honestly have no idea how long my code will be with all the I/O I am going to need.

I was talking to an Atmel rep last week and asked about the 328s. He said that they will not be out for sale until late Dec or Jan, but, samples would be available in Oct.

Cool. I'll order my boarduino now then, as I don't really want to wait. It could be Spring by the time they ship them.
