rx and tx pin question

by jim on Tue Feb 03, 2009 1:15 am

my 36 color bike light now reads my speed in knots on two seven-segment LEDs.

i am having trouble with the shift register that is wired to the rx, tx and D2, (0,1,2) pins.

the 0 and 1 pin are already wired to the rx and tx of a FTDI FT232 USB chip.

is there some reason i can't expect the arduino's rx and tx pins to sometimes talk to the FTDI chip and
other times talk to the shift register like any other digital I/O pin?

ya id change those pins, rx and tx are being used for serial already and that will mess up readings
