Power For Cellular Shield SIM808

Post by Macster999 »

Hi,

If I am in a fixed installation, and don't really need a battery. Can the 2636 shield be pwered by the Arduino only, or do I still need a battery for some reason.

Thanks

Michel

You need at least a small battery.

The FONA's radio has a peak current draw of about 2A, and the power path from the Arduino can't handle that kind of current. A LiPo can handle it easily though, and the bursts of high current only last for a few milliseconds.
