arduino 0013 and 328p chip problem on mac?

by donleo on Mon Feb 16, 2009 6:08 pm

I placed the 328p chip on the arduino board.
Downloaded the 0013 environment.
set to --> tools>arduino w/atmeg328.
uploaded example sketch blink:

now i got the error :

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding...

in the hardware folder named boards.txt and change the line from:
atmega328.upload.speed=57600
to
atmega328.upload.speed=19200

and arround
but still:

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding...

[arduino board with 168 worked ok with 0013]

please help

Where did you get the 328 from? did it come with the bootloader installed?

i'm guessing that you got it from adafruit and you think it did, which is why you are edited the file, but just to make it clear...

Yes I ordered 3 preprogrammed 328 controllers from Adafruit,

[tested another 328controller on another arduino [new] board --> same problem:

Couldn't determine program size: text data bss dec hex filename

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

On my linux box, I've found that I have to press the reset button on the arduino and then quickly click upload in the ide. Otherwise I get the same error message you've been seeing.

when you press the reset button, do you still get a triple blink on pin 13?

well whatever you used for the boards.txt to upload a blink sketch you should keep it that way
make sure you have the right COM port
when you try to upload, does the LED blink 3 times

hi ladyada

I was in Spain so i could not give you a reply..

Now that i'm uploaded again, I installed the board.txt again and chanched
atmega328.upload.speed=57600
to
atmega328.upload.speed=19200

again

and now it works...
think i changed the upload speed code of the board.txt on the atmega8.name=Arduino NG or older w/ ATmega8
instead of the 328...?

Sometimes i need a upload myself...

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP....

[Arduino Duemilavove, Arduino v13, Mac OS X 10.4.11]

I just received the new 328 arduino from Adafruit and I'm having a similar issue. The error that I am getting is:

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0xa0
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x20

My 168 arduino still works fine.

I changed the 328 line in boards.txt from

atmega328.upload.speed=57600
to
atmega328.upload.speed=19200

If I apply power to the unit I get a single flash as soon as power is applied and then one more 1/2 a second later.

Any other suggestions?
Thank you
sandds

I tried both the 19200 and the 57600. I quit the app between each try. I tried resetting the board before uploading as well. I rebooted the computer just incase there was something funny loaded.

Upon resetting the board I get a quick flash after release of the button and then a single flash.

I am still able to get my older arduino to accept the blink sketch without issue.

Just in case this tells you something:
After an unsuccessful upload and receiving the previously posted error, if I go to serial monitor and the baud is set to 19200 in the dropdown, I get...

"úõ?Rúõ?Rúõ?Rúõ?

Repeated over and over.

If I change the rate to 57600 I get:

l?Ûl#b <bânÀF?;ìr

Repeated over and over.

Do I have a bad board or need to update the bootloader?

Thanks

sandds, one more thing you can try is swapping the microcontrollers (carefully)
if you're still having problems email support@adafruit to get a replacement!
