Speedy Arduino Upgrade Issues

by seanirby on Wed Feb 25, 2009 2:22 pm

Hi I burnt out my original Arduino chip by incorrectly connecting a reference voltage to the AREF pin. I assumed this did not damage the other components on the Diecimila board so I only replaced the uC. I got the speedy ATmega328 chip from adafruit and followed the installation instructions given on the site. I'm trying to get my program running on the board but I receive the following error.

I tried setting that upload speed to both 57600 and 19200 but I still receive
the same error. Any ideas?

Yep.

As usual the error message that you are getting should be a clue.

Check out the very first line of text - what does that tell you?

See if you can fix it first, then scroll down for the solution...

"Binary sketch size: 3254 bytes (of a 14336 byte maximum)" - the '328 has 30k byte maximum - you didn't change the board type in the Tools -> Board menu when you upgraded the processor.

Yeah well, reading it again it may have come across as a bit knob-ish, but eventually you get to the point where you think maybe it is better for people to learn themselves...

Man, how OLD am I?

nah, its not a big deal. but most people wouldnt think to look at that line.
i wish arduino would print out
"attempting to contact arduino xyz with abc chip at 123 baud rate"
...

Oooh a speedy chip. Will it make my Arduino speed up?

its faster to program, the chip itself runs at the same speed
