serial input on the i/0 pins?

by wkuace on Thu Feb 26, 2009 3:59 pm

i'm a newb to the arduino, i'm using it for a project at school. We are going to interface an ID-12 rfid reader to the arduino i'm wondering if i can use one of the input pins as a temporary serial pin to read the id numbers and then output them to the computer with the RX/TX pins or is it possible to read the rfid with the serial pins and transmit(it seems like it might fry the chip). do the i/o pins have the capabilities of 9600 baud or will i have to some how store the tags in memory and retrive them

Software serial is your friend...

http://www.arduino.cc/en/Reference/SoftwareSerial

Ladyada has an "upgraded" version of softwareSerial too... search for "AFSoftSerial"
