Do you happen to have an Uno you can use for a comparison test?

If the glitch is in the FONA's hardware, the problem will follow the FONA from one Arduino to another.

Thank you. That seems to confirm a glitch in the FONA's UART.

Send a note with a link to this thread and your order number to [email protected]. The folks there will get you a replacement FONA.

I got the new fona but I still having the same problem. I re-check all the solutions you gave me last time and still not working. Any other idea that what could be happening? With this Fona, again, evn if it detects it and shows the menu it says that is a fona 800L (instead a 800H). Also, none of the commands is working.

That has to be something in the operating environment. The chance of two devices from different batches having the same defect is extremely low.

I can only suggest you re-check everything in the signal path, and go through the FONA tutorials step by step to see if you can get the board working in a known-good configuration.

Replying to an old old post.. but I hope it might help someone. I had the same problem and after alot of googling and trying out different solutions, one finally worked. I changed my battery and used a 1000mAh, fully charged and this solved my problem.
