yet another opensource hardware license

now from CERN (Organisation Européenne pour la Recherche Nucléaire -- the European Organization for Nuclear Research):

http://ohwr.org/CERNOHL
http://www.ohwr.org/documents/88
http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News ... se-OHL-11/
http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news ... effort.ars

any thoughts about using it in kitbiz?...

CERNOHLv1_1_howto.pdf says:

Include on the silkscreen:
- the licence notice: "Licensed under CERN OHL v.1.1"
Do not include the CERN logo or the copyright notice

Does it mean "CERN copyright notice" or "ANY copyright notice"?...

it's interesting - I looked at some PCBs covered by CERN OHL v1.1 and I didn't see ANY copyright on them!

For example this one:
http://www.ohwr.org/attachments/564/SPE ... gh_res.jpg
http://www.ohwr.org/attachments/565/SPE ... gh_res.jpg

Is it possible that this particular license covers just design documentation (including schematics and PCB topology), but not actual PCB?...

hmm, not exactly sure what you mean - you might want to email the owner of the project since they would be able to completely answer how/what/why they licensed the hardware for sure.

Don't forget that you no longer need to have a copyright notice on your "published work" for copyright to be in effect. I think the idea is that you don't put a CERN copyright on YOUR work.
