PN532 - Didn't find PN53x

I bought two of the PN532 breakouts - v1.6. I wired as per diagram. Using with Uno R3. Getting 'didn't find PN53x'. I have wired both on separate breadboards, using separate unos so it is not a breadboard/cable/board issue. Jumpers are for SPI and the wiring is identical to diagram even down to cable colour.

They power light comes on the breakout and remains steady on both boards.

In my images the ground cables to the 4040 missing, I added them and the ones to the breakout, no difference.

Tried 5v power too.

In the first picture, the Uno appears to be wired wrong, with the jumpers going to 1, 2, 3, and 4 instead of 2, 3, 4, and 5. So it's not surprising that one doesn't work.

In the second picture, everything appears to be right, apart from the missing grounds, and you added those later.. So I don't understand why it doesn't work. Which sketch are you using for testing? Did you modify it at all?
