Music Maker Feather - Right Speaker Channel Distorted Noise

by Anmiro on Fri May 10, 2019 6:45 am

I´m using the Music Maker FeatherWing w/ Amp – Stereo 3W Amplifier. The left speaker sounds great, but the right one has some loud fuzzy distortion. I tried different 4/8 ohm speakers and i even swapped them with the same result. The speaker works great, i think the problem is the right channel. The soldering looks perfect. In the code i only set the volume on both channels, is it necessary to setup anything for the channels? Any advice on what to check?

Shouldn't require anything special setting wise. Let's check the hardware. Can you post a photo of the board so we can check for anything obvious.

Thanks. That all looks generally OK. Is the buzz there all the time? Or is it like the right audio channel has distorted playback? Is it the same with any audio file you try playing back?

Hi,

thank you for your help! If I don´t play a track there is only a slight noise on the right speaker. The left is completely quiet, but as soon as I play a track the background noise is very loud. It does not matter which song I play, the background noise is always there.

I´ve created two small recordings (.m4a). You can find them in my One Drive folder:

Thanks for the audio samples. That sounds like some kind of electrical noise is coupling in with your audio. How are you powering the setup during playback? What is the voltage and current rating of the supply?

What Feather control board are you using to drive the FeatherWing?

The device is directly connected to the usb port of my pc because im still in the development phase.
I´m using the Adafruit Feather M0 WiFi - ATSAMD21 + ATWINC1500.

It may just be a power issue. For the version with the amp, you need more power:

and maybe the USB port is not able to deliver it.

Do you have another power source you could try?
