1.8" Color TFT shield V2 -vs- V1

by ctroupe on Mon Oct 12, 2020 7:13 pm

I recently purchased the 1.8" Color TFT with uSD and Joystick V2 (Product ID 802). I am connecting it to a STM32 Nucleo-64 board (STM32L452) per STM instructions. I noticed that the image of the Adafruit board in the STM documentation and the board I received are different. I am guessing that the STM32 Nucleo board is only compatible with the older V1 board (non Seesaw version). In the STM application notes it indicates that the firmware will look at Pin A3 to be high to detect that the shield is installed. The schematics in Adafruit web site shows that the V2 of the board A3 is not hooked up, but in V1 it is connected to the joystick.

Is the older V1 board available for sale? I could not find it on your website. Not sure if I can get this V2 board to work with my Nucleo-64 board because there is no where to plug in the 6 pin connector on the Adafruit board next to the joystick and the uSD connector.

Are you able to change the STM application you are using to use different pins? You have the schematic for the shield so you can see which pins need to be changed for the STM application to work.

I also wanted to use the V2 shield for a prototype I was building using a STM32L0 MCU, however I did not find any support for the V2 board in the current STM32CubeL0 offering or anywhere else - so I implemented it myself and published the results.

The how-to is here:
https://github.com/firmwaremodules/STM32CubeL0/issues/1

And the source code is here in this branch:

Cheers!
