Arduino uno with ultimate gps logger shield

Post by IjakiI »

I folled the instruction in the tutorial: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ult ... d?view=all
solded all pins and used an USB to plug the uno bord to the PC, uploaded the sample code but the GPS shield didn't light up any LEDs or parsed any data to the seriel monitor.
After some search and trying, i noticed that the gps shield is working if i connect the VIN pin to the 5v pin and not with the VIN to VIN connection. How can i use the shield without an extra cable ?

Could you please post a photo showing the under side of those same pins.

hmm I soldered them wrong -.- .. but if i use jumpercable it doesn't solve the problem. Here the pictures it only works with 5v connected to vin

Unfortunately, yes. I was suspicious of this when I saw the long header leads coming up through the shield in your original photos. The short leads will not make good contact into the headers on the UNO. The only way to remedy it is to flip them around - a tricky but doable resolder job.

I'd suggest staying away from Vin on the UNO. It accesses the raw input power. Instead, use the 5V pin. Use your jumpers and connect that to 5V on the shield: UNO 5V -> Shield 5V. Report back.

OK 5V to 5V does the job, i'll resolder everything and then the 5v uno should have connection to the 5v Shield pin and it hopefully work without jumper cables.
Thanks for the Help :D

Cool. If you can manage to get those headers flipped around, it should all just work. Good luck.
