Will SmartMatrix SD shield v3 be back?

Post by DGrass639 »

Hi,
I'm wondering if Adafruit will be getting any more of the SmartMatrix SD shield v3 (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1902) back in stock, and hopefully an estimate time of when that might happen?

I'm working on a project to make multiple LED matrix displays. Initially I only bought the components needed to make one of my displays in order to test it out. It worked great, and now that I'm almost done getting the code finished up, I see that this item is still out of stock.

I'd really like to know if this product will be back anytime soon, because if it is not, then I'll need to look for some other product instead.

Thanks in advance.

We should be getting more, but we don't do ETAs. There are too many sources of delay that we can't control, and too many people who think 'estimated' means 'guaranteed'.

You can sign up for in-stock notification from the product page, but you might also want to check with our resellers.. maybe someone has existing stock:

Wow, that distributors list is a lot longer than I expected. I believe I've checked the bigger resellers already by doing a google search of the part, but I will definitely take a look, thanks.

Also, I'm not utilizing the SD card storage on the shield. Is the shield doing anything important other than providing the SD card reader? Obviously the shield is very useful in bringing the free signals out to one convenient header, and includes nice power connectors and that sort of thing. But since I’m not using the SD storage, could I duplicate the useful connectors on my own with possibly a blank shield or something and finish this project without the SmartMatrix SD shield?

We have the Perma-Proto Hat, which is wired like a breadboard and has all the standard pin breakouts:

There's also the EZ-Connect Hat which sports a bunch of terminal blocks:

And some of the others might also be interesting to you:

Thanks anyway, but I'm pretty sure those won't work easily with a Teensy.

My mistake.. I looked at the shape and immediately thought 'RasPi Hat'. Sorry.

I'm afraid we don't have any other general breakouts for the Teensy. You might want to check over in the PJRC forums though.. that's the home of the Teensy platform:
