Adafruit WINC1500 WiFi Shield - memory?

by wellsa on Thu Nov 30, 2017 11:25 am

If I used this shield on my Arduino Uno, with the libraries referenced in the tutorial (https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-win ... o?view=all) installed, how much memory would be available for my code?

If you write the code and compile the IDE will tell you.

I have the ATWINC1500 breakout rather than the shield, but for whatever it's worth... when I compile the simple little sketch that checks the firmware version and displays it to Serial output, the IDE says the sketch uses 22240 (68%) of the 32 KB program space, and 1073 bytes (52%) of the 2 KB for variables. The setup() function in this sketch does all the work and is about 50 lines long, so undoubtedly the sketch itself is responsible for some of the memory usage.

I don't want to buy the product only to find I don't have enough memory!

Has anyone followed the tutorial I referred to, and if so, how much memory is left?

That way I can gauge if my project will fit!!

Thanks.

As Franklin said, you can compile it yourself and check. You don't need the shield in order to compile the code, so you can just write whatever you want, include the necessary libraries, and see what the IDE tells you about memory usage. You can do all that without buying the shield.
