On earlier versions of the UNO, you need to short the SDA & SCL jumpers as described in the guide:

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
I'll do what you can I recommend. Will I be able to use this shield with an R3 if I decide to upgrade the UNO or will the shield be a pre-R3 only?

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
It will work fine on an UNO R3 with the jumpers installed.
If using with a different kind of Arduino (Mega, Due, Zero, etc you may want to remove the jumpers.)

I shorted the jumpers but I still get the same response. Any other suggestions?

If you purchased the shield within the last 30 days, we can try replacing it. Please contact [email protected] with your order info and a link to this thread.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
Hello!
I am looking to purchase a data logging shield for my Arduino 101. I was wondering if the data logging shield (Product ID: 1141) is compatible with an Arduino 101?
I saw a list of other Arduinos that were compatible, but the 101 was not listed so just want to double check. Thanks!

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
@bbg07 - the question is a bit off-topic for this thread. Please start a new thread. If you mention the data logger and Arduino 101 in the title, someone familiar with that processor is more likely to see it.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
I received the replacement data logging shield today. I built it, checked the soldering, and installed a fresh battery. I even soldered the two I2C jumpers on the bottom of the shield. I uploaded the sketch to test the rtc. No output. None. What seems to be going on here? When the sketch uploads or when I press the reset button, the red ED next to the battery case flashes but then nothing.

Please post some photos of the front and back of the new shield.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
I attach a photo of the top and back. I retouched all of the solder joints. Still no output. BTW, I get correct output from a CardInfo sketch.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
Do you have another Arduino to test it with? There may be a problem with the i2c pins on the one you are using.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
Tried it with a new (as in "not used very much") R3. Still nothing.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
Here's something that may be of interest. I added the line Serial.println("Hello"); to the pcf8523 sketch immediately after the Serial.begin() line. "Hello" printed out but nothing else did.

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
Remove the shield from the Arduino and use a multimeter to test for conductivity between SCL and A5 (yellow circles) and also between SDA and A4 (red circles) as shown below:

Re: Data logger shield/timestamp
I'm not all that handy with a multimeter but assuming that I did this correctly, I got no reading. The multimeter that I used (which I bought from you guys) is a DT-9205B+. The red lead is in the mA jaack with the black in COM. The dial is set on the 20 on the lower right hand section of the dial. I also turned the meter on.
