SD Card failed (Arduino - Shield SD)

by fdelabriere on Wed Sep 04, 2019 9:22 am

Hi to all,
my project is stopped...
I need a SD card and i used the last exemple for driving my SD Card with "Card SDHC 8GB 133x Speed" formated with my Mac App "SD Card Formatter" and this code below:

#include <SPI.h>
#include <SD.h>
...
// Adafruit SD shields and modules: pin 10
const int chipSelect = 10;
...
if (!card.init(SPI_HALF_SPEED, chipSelect)) {
Serial.println("initialization failed. Things to check:");
Serial.println("* is a card inserted?");
Serial.println("* is your wiring correct?");
Serial.println("* did you change the chipSelect pin to match your shield or module?");
...

No way !

Initializing SD card...initialization failed. Things to check:
* is a card inserted?
* is your wiring correct?
* did you change the chipSelect pin to match your shield or module?

Can you help me ? Do i need to buy a SD Card from your store ?
Thanks a lot for your precious help.
Franck.

The list of things to check (and double check) is good. Since you are using a shield, wiring shouldn't be an issue, but double check the chip select pin. The card should be formatted with FAT.

You don't need to buy a card from Adafruit.

Which shield are you using?

Hi Dave,
how can i "...but double check the chip select pin..." ?

Software:
The code is a copy of the last exemple took from the arduino.cc "Arduino web editor"
...
// Adafruit SD shields and modules: pin 10
const int chipSelect = 10;
...

Hardware:
I just connected the shield upon the Arduino uno and add a small battery for the Clock.
I sent you a picture of the hardware. Do i have to do something on it ?
Thanks a lot,
Franck.

Are the header pins soldered on?

I'm wondering about the header pins as well. They should be inserted from the bottom of the board. and soldered on top. See https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-data-logger-shield/installing-the-headers

Hi Dave,
in order to check, i just unsolder all the pins and keep the x6 for main signales and wrap the pin 10 with the CS pin of the shield !
I add my Hantek scope on this pin and confirm that:
1- The shield light are blinking when upload soft into the arduino uno
2- The pin 10 begin with Zero volt and jump to 4,83 V, so High level in order to adress the SD Shield.

But, the Monitor send me the same msg:
"Initializing SD card...initialization failed. Things to check:
* is a card inserted?
* is your wiring correct?
* did you change the chipSelect pin to match your shield or module?

I am a bit despite...

Regards,
Franck.

It's a little confusing what you did here. Can you post new photos showing both sides of the shield in its current state.
